So, got some good ol gas this morning, and I was pleasantly surprised
Barely started using fuelly for the last few fuel ups, but it seems that my little 86 Accord is getting some pretty awesome mileage.
And yes, my car is named Emelia, as in Emelia Earhart, because this damn car has enough miles to go around the world quite a few times.

When your car dies, will you push it into the sea?
/Too soon?

Let nature take it back!

Here's mine, haha. Best I've done is 24.5... My commute is so short now that my MPG's are shit + it's winter.

Not too bad for a V6, especially if it's a lot of stop and go. My commute one way is 26 miles, and like 22 of those are on the interstate, and I don't go above 60 usually, plus I coast a lot as well. But hey anything above 20 in my book is pretty good.

Haha, I am currently around 17, when it warms up and once I get my tune I bet I'll be able to go north of 20 again.
My Jetta I used to be able to average 30ish at times.

Yeah, winter isn't the greatest for getting good mileage, the way I drive for my commute, once summer hits I think I'll try for 35, that would be awesome.
I love seeing 30 miles a gallon, it is pretty awesome. Even more awesome is that I only have a 12 gallon gas tank, so its like 36 bucks to fill up, then I drive around for a good 400 miles or so if I drive really conservatively

Hah that is nice. 35mpg would be awesome to see, haha. I would love to see 30 out of my SHO, I'll try for it during a road trip sometime.
I had a Ford 500 before this, that thing was surprisingly good on gas, on a road trip from I managed to push that thing to 32mpg, I was going at or slightly above speed limits the whole time.

Yes yes this is all well and good. On to more important things like CHARGE YOUR PHONE! dead before 8am... Some people's kids

If it was mainly highway below 62 mph, I could see a SHO getting close to 30.
32 mpg isn't bad at all.
Getting good mileage is still surprising to me, because my daily before I picked up my Accord was a 944, and I like to drive that thing, shall we say, a bit spirited.

Hey now, I fell asleep early and forgot to plug it in.
I'm an IT guy so I've managed to get enough chargers planted everywhere that no matter where I go during the course of my work day I can charge my phone, so there!

Haha yeah, I can't help but stomp on the gas pedal of the SHO... frequently.
I think i can definitely hit 30mpg after my tune, a tune on that car is known to increase mpg's significantly. So will better-gapped spark plugs and downpipes :D
I bet you'd hit 35 easy going 60-ish mph.

Yeah, it's the same thing with my 300 as well, even with the thing completely stock it still sounds ridiculously nice for a V6, and it's rev happy as hell.
Do it! A tune, some minor upgrades and some good summer tires and you should be getting some great mileage.
Oh I'm definitely going to try, even when I drive this car a little spirited, I get good mileage it really is awesome, I think I may end up keeping this little Honda, it's a fun car.

Fuelly is an extremely fun tool. My car is currently experiencing a major thermostat issue, so whenever the temperature drops below 20*F, my mileage drops into the 30s.

Damn man those are some pretty impressive numbers.
And what thermostat issue? Getting stuck?
Edit: And I added you as a friend!

Awesome! :)
From the looks of it, the thermostat appears to be getting partially stuck open in temperatures under 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The engine isn't getting up to running temperature and it's causing a whole host of problems.
I contacted smart USA (since the vehicle still has warranty) and they have their crack team of engineers in Germany trying to figure it out...because my dealer refuses to do any engine work without a CEL present.

Really, your dealer won't do anything?
And that sounds like the weirdest problem, maybe they use crappy springs in their thermos?

So you inspired me to import all my data that I had on my car. Here is my account:

Damn, not bad, with almost even city/highway driving you've got some good numbers there. And I added you as a friend as well, us oppos gotta stick together! And brag about awesome mileage to each other.

I added you as well. I've tried to be light with the car. You will see over the next few months it will drastically change to highway miles. I travel a 120 miles a day now and a majority of it is highway.
I'm hoping the mileage goes up because I've been warming the car up in the morning before I take off. I'm honestly impressed that an AWD car gets such numbers. My goal is to avg 27, but we will see.

Yay friends!
But yeah I've found that if you let it warm up, take it easy and shift at 3k rpm's always, and keep it below 62 mph on the freeway, you can actually grab up some impressive numbers. I also coast down all hills, but mid 20's for an AWD is pretty good either way.

Makes sense we are friends now. We think a like. I try to shift around 2500 once I get higher up in the gears and keep the car below 3k rpm. I'm really curious to how my next fill up will go. Today I went extra slow on the highway. I normally book it between 70-80; which has really hurt my numbers. But today I probably avg'd 60 and drafted a big rig for 17 miles. Hopefully I don't get crushed by traffic tonight spoiling everything I did this morning.
It has become a sick twisted game haha.

Well, geniuses do think a like!
I used to draft a bit, but truckers and dump truck drivers here in the Northern VA area really don't fuck around, they'll crush your ass, I stopped hanging around them after I got a chipped window on my 300, and almost got slammed into a jersey barrier by a dump truck. But it is a good way to cut down those numbers.
Usually when I am in stop and go traffic, I try to keep it in second, and keep the rpm's low, in stop and go I'll shift at around 2400 or so, trying to keep a balance between not dragging the clutch but also keeping the fuel consumption down. It's a game for sure, and it definitely keeps me entertained, because I have no radio in my Honda haha, shit gets really boring sometimes.

Ha. I almost named the car Emilio after your post.
By draft I mean at very least I'm a car length away. They are mostly breaking the head winds. I'm with you on that. I would never follow a dump truck. I completely feel you on the debris. If I hear anything kick around I drop back. I can't tell you how many cracked windows I've had and this wasn't from drafting or riding close to people. I just have extremely bad luck in that department. I want to say I've had 4 replaced windows in the last 8 years.
Solid tips for stop and go.

Hah, why Emilio?
And yeah, those dump trucks just suck, I would hate to be one of their drivers, they probably get an insane amount of shit. I remember one time I was behind a dump truck, about 3 car lengths, and for some reason I got the feeling I should move over, so I did, and proceeded to pass the truck. As I past, the truck hit a bump, it hit it so hard that the back of the truck where they put all their shit lifted off the frame a few inches, and EVERYTHING inbetween those two things came off, it looked like a snow storm of rocks, so happy I wasn't still in that area.

Ha because your car was Emelia and because the Mighty Ducks (Emilio Estevez).
I never went after the truck to repair the window, but I'm sure a ton do. That's insane about what you saw. I couldn't even imagine. I guess the only thing worse would be like Biff from Back To The Future and a pile of crap dumped on you.

Hah, do it then man, name that car Emilio.
And yeah, I always see a ton of close calls here, I guess that is just the I-95 for you. When my windshield got cracked they fixed it for free for me, it wasn't too bad. They had it sealed in like 10 minutes. And yeah, I feel bad for whoever was behind that, talk about some road rash.
